First impressions on a haptonomy course…

June 30th, 2009 by Albatros

So, one of the things I have been up to lately is haptonomy training. I worked my way into getting accepted, which I was delighted of.

I found myself in a group of close to forty students, a majority of them being midwives. The first year is a generic induction to haptonomy, and is as compulsory as probatory for the “specialisation” that might follow up.

This first set of courses allowed us students to progress from “touching” to getting a glimpse of an haptonomy act. I would say the course was circa 80% practical, with some theory that was appended to specific exercises – throwing some light to them, or more specifically, putting some words into -  which does not mean explaining them.

At this stage of the course none of the students can really approach anyone on a haptonomic way, but the experience itself is already self changing. Never could I imagine how much the way we touch and the way we are touched can change the way we interact with the world, that is, the way we exist. I have been privileged with getting a glimpse of a way of co-being which is totally respectful and healing in the way of that, when you allow someone to have a real free space, this person will fill it, and that freedom of existence is what I found healing.

I can only start imagining the benefits not only on labour and peri labor, but on all therapeutic approaches, as haptonomy goes well beyond a manual approach, it is indeed a holistic approach that takes into account the wholeness of an individual.

Next course is on September, I am eagerly looking forward to it.

And back again…

June 11th, 2009 by Albatros

Wow… I believe it’s been over a year since I haven’t posted… I have been busy alright, and some of the activities I’ve been undertaking will reflect here in the next few weeks. I intend to get back to posting and introduce what really makes my approach to birthing anthroposophical, and even hermetic.

For those who still read, stay tuned… :)

Natural and anthroposophical births in New Zealand?

April 20th, 2008 by Albatros

New Zealand educated!I haven’t updated this blog in a while due to personal issues. I’m actually thinking about relocating to New Zealand. This country, besides being most probably the closest thing to paradise on earth, has a very interesting approach to medical welfare and a wide acceptance to natural therapies. If like me you don’t care about lower wages but appreciate an enhanced quality of life, it does look like the perfect choice.

Because of my own background (I am now based in Ireland, born in Spain and lived a significant part of my life in France), moving to New Zealand will also mean re-starting my education from scratch, which I don’t mind at all, if it weren’t for the funding difficulties… Anyone there willing to advance 150, 000 euro or have a great idea on how to get that sum? :-)

At this rate, I won’t be able to relocate before a year and a half; I intend to continue updating this website as best and as often as I can. For those writing and not getting responses, please understand I’m short, very short of time, but that I do get all messages.

Hello world!

September 26th, 2007 by Albatros

Who I am and what I do is not really important as it won’t change anything in your life. As I write I’m in my early thirties, have worked for a number of years in IT fields and am now switching back to midwifery. Actually, back to midwifery education in order to obtain the most widely internationally recognized qualification, as I don’t intend to stay in Europe long. New Zealand seems to be a halt for a while, but time will tell.

I’m a male by the way :-) and if you’ve not already read it, just pop here to find out what my approach to birth and midwifery is.

I intend to update this blog on a weekly basis. Not only as to have a trustful, clear and free source of information on natural homebirth on the internet, but also to me as a tool for my midwifery practice.
